More Than Just Body Fat: What an InBody Scan Uncovers

The InBody isn’t just about showing your body fat percentage (though it does that with about 97% accuracy!). It’s a non-invasive, quick scan that breaks down your body into core components that can give you many more insights about your health and training progress:

  • Skeletal Muscle Mass (SMM): This is a game-changer, especially for those focused on muscle gain or bone density. The InBody shows you exactly how much muscle you have, indicating your true strength and metabolic engine. Seeing your SMM increase is incredibly motivating and confirms that your strength training is paying off.
  • Body Fat Mass & Percentage: Beyond the number, this tells us exactly how much fat is on your body, giving a clear picture of your health status and progress towards fat loss goals.
  • Segmental Lean Analysis: This is where the magic happens! The InBody provides a detailed breakdown of muscle and fat distribution in each limb and your torso. This helps your Fairfax personal trainer identify muscle imbalances or areas that need more focused attention, ensuring a balanced and powerful physique.
  • Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR): This is the number of calories your body burns at rest. Your BMR is directly influenced by your muscle mass – more muscle means a higher BMR, making weight management more efficient.
  • Body Water (Intracellular & Extracellular): This can offer clues about hydration levels or potential inflammation.

Armed with this comprehensive data, your NOVA Strong personal trainer can customize your workouts and nutrition plan with precision, ensuring every session moves you closer to your specific goals, whether it’s significant muscle gain, targeted weight loss, or overall improved health.

What to Expect During Your InBody Scan

Getting an InBody scan at Nova Strong is simple and takes just a few minutes. You’ll step onto the device barefoot, grab the hand electrodes, and stand still while the scan collects your data. It’s completely painless and non-invasive.

You will also come up with a four-digit PIN for your Inbody Profile. This is so that we can pull up previous data and compare your results. Don’t worry, for NOVA Strong clients, we’ll add the pin to your client account so that you won’t have to remember it.

Your personal trainer will guide you through the entire process, making sure you’re comfortable and understand each step.

Getting the Most Accurate Results: Your Pre-Scan Checklist

To ensure your InBody results are as accurate and consistent as possible, follow these guidelines for your scan:

  • Fast: Avoid eating or consuming significant liquids for at least 2-4 hours before your scan.
  • Hydrate (But Not Immediately Before): Be well-hydrated in the 24 hours leading up to the scan, but avoid excessive water intake immediately before.
  • Avoid Exercise: Refrain from vigorous exercise for at least 6-12 hours prior to your scan, as it can temporarily alter fluid distribution.
  • No Caffeine or Alcohol: Avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine for at least 24 hours before your test, as they can affect hydration levels.
  • Use the Restroom: Empty your bladder completely before the scan.
  • Same Time, Same Conditions: For tracking progress, try to get scanned at the same time of day and under similar conditions (e.g., before your workout) each time.
  • Remove Metals: Take off any heavy jewelry, watches, or metallic items that might interfere with the current.

Understanding your body on a deeper level is the key to truly transformative progress. An InBody scan provides that clarity, allowing us to build an even more effective and personalized fitness training strategy for you.
