Denise Became A National Competitor

Over 6 Years ago, I was approached by a Masters Swimmer to help her overcome her back pain and boost her performance in the pool. Denise had recently become an empty nester and wanted to turn her attention back to being an athlete. During our time together, we’ve not only checked off those initial goals, but we’ve gotten her to compete at the National level and have helped her through many life and athletic transitions.

The first 3-4 years of our work together, Denise went all in on her sport. We trained her at a high level and matched her weight training to her competition schedule. Even during periods of high volume in the water, Denise knew the importance of maintaining and developing her strength, and her extra work paid off.

Denise still swims and likes to join the occasional competition, but post-COVID, her goals started to change to focus on longevity and finding more joy in exercise.

After following the work of Dr. Peter Attia and Dr. Stacy Sims, Denise chose some weight training goals that would be motivating and also help her combat the effects of aging.

Currently, as I write this, Denise is pursuing some general strength goals on her squat, bench, and deadlift, but is also enjoying learning how to olympic lift for fun. Denise embodies the idea of being empowered by what your body can do and is constantly choosing new goals and skills to develop.

As a coach, it’s been a joy to support her and be a part of the team to get her to the podium and to optimal health.
